Miso Music Portugal and the Musica Viva Festival 2010 convokes composers to send electroacoustic miniatures to be diffused at the “Sound Walk” installation during the Musica Viva Festival 2010 at the Belem Arts Centre in Lisbon (from the 16th to the 19th of September 2010).

La Fundación Destellos, anuncia su llamado a obras para el Tercer Concurso de Composición Electroacústica.
El concurso tiene como objetivos la promoción y desarrollo de la creación artística mediante el uso de nuevas tecnologías. Asimismo, es propósito de la Fundación Destellos estimular la creatividad de las jóvenes generaciones de artistas y proporcionarles nuevas vías de difusión de sus obras.
El primer premio será atribuido por Destellos  y consistirá en 500 dólares americanos y una residencia de estudio en Mar del Plata (Argentina).
Dos segundos premios, consistentes en sendas colecciones de CD de música eletroacústica, serán otorgados por :
- la organización Akusma<Motus, de Francia
- la fundación Phonos de Barcelona, España.
Las instituciones participantes ofrecerán asimismo la difusión de las obras premiadas, a través de conciertos y festivales.

Reglamento :
1. El llamado está abierto a compositores/as y artistas visuales, de hasta 50 años, de cualquier nacionalidad. La participación es gratuita.
2. Se admitirán obras estereofónicas, de una duración máxima de 11′.
3. Se admitirán obras de música electroacústica con vídeo, de una duración máxima de 6′. Las obras deberán responder al criterio estético en el que los lenguajes musical y visual estén en estrecha relación tanto en su estructura, como en su contenido y su calidad técnica. En el caso de obras en colaboración el premio será considerado ex æquo y los autores deberán determinar un representante para recibirlo.
4. Serán excluidas las obras que requieran la intervención de instrumentos o elementos en directo : live electronics, mixtas, interactivas e improvisadas.
5. Cada artista/compositor podrá presentar una sola obra, que no haya sido editada, ni premiada anteriormente.
6. Los participantes deberán inscribirse previamente, enviando por email el formulario adjunto debidamente completado por computadora. No se aceptarán formularios manuscritos

7. Cada candidato recibirá un email de confirmación y un Código de inscripción;
8. Los materiales deberán enviarse por correo con la sola mención, sobre todos los soportes, del titulo de la obra y el Número de Codigo asignado por email.
9. Soportes admitidos : DVD y CD : Las obras con vídeo deberán enviarse en formato QuickTime sin compresión (.mov), las obras acusmáticas en CD audio.
10. Las obras recibidas no serán devueltas a los candidatos y serán conservadas en los archivos de la mediateca de la Fundación.
11. No podrán participar quienes hayan sido premiados (Primer premio y premio Motus) en los anteriores Concursos Destellos. Tampoco podrán hacerlo los miembros del jurado y sus familias.

13. El jurado estará integrado por miembros de reconocido prestigio internacional.
14. El jurado se reserva el derecho de declarar el premio desierto y otorgar una o varias menciones, así como de otorgar un premio “ex-æquo” ante obras del mismo nivel de calidad. La decisión del jurado es definitiva e inapelable y será publicada a partir del 30 de agosto 2010.
15. La Fundación se reserva el derecho de suspender, anular o modificar el concurso por causas imprevistas, que serán dadas a conocer oportunamente.
16. Los autores premiados se comprometen a hacer figurar la mención “Premio Destellos 2010″ en todos los programas que incluyan su obra premiada. El compositor deberá informar a la Fundación de las difusiones públicas de la obra.
17. Por su participación en el concurso, los candidatos declaran aceptar en su totalidad las condiciones del presente reglamento.

Kansas City Electronic Music and Arts Alliance (KcEMA) Call for Works KcEMA is currently accepting submissions for its 2010-11 concert season.  KcEMA will present three to six concerts during the 2010-11 season in non-traditional venues that will feature compositions selected from this call for works.  For consideration, applicants must complete an online submission form available at http://www.kcema.net/submit.html.  Further submission guidelines are available upon completion of the online submission form.  You are given the option of submitting materials by mail, but we much prefer to review work online.  While there is no limit to the number of submissions per individual, KcEMA’s artistic committee will spend no longer than 10 minutes reviewing the work of an individual during the initial review process. Deadline: May 1, 2010 Deadline type: receipt Entry fee: none. Open to: no restrictions 

Categories for submission:
1) 1-4 instruments (excluding piano) and fixed media-audio and/or video (up to eight channels)
2) 1-4 instruments (excluding piano) and live electronics-audio and/or video. Pieces that utilize Max 4 or 5, and pieces that utilize shareware will be considered (up to eight channels)
3) Fixed media—audio and/or video (up to eight channels)
4) Live Laptop/Interactive works. Pieces that utilize Max 4 or 5, and pieces that utilize shareware will be considered. (up to eight channels)
5) Sound Installations and Interactive Media (submitter to provide all non-standard equipment) Preferences:  KcEMA has a preference for works with a visual element or live instrument.  However, we typically program at least one fixed media-audio work per concert. Attendance: Attendance at the event is not required. Notification:  You will only by contacted if more information about your work is required or if KcEMA programs your work during the 2010-11 concert season.  You will not be notified if your work is not selected for performance.  If submitting materials by mail, your materials will not be returned.  Licensing: KcEMA will not rent parts or pay any fees directly to an individual.  We will provide each composer with a PDF of the program that he or she can submit to ASCAP or BMI.

The SMC Summer School will take place just before the Conference and it will aim at giving an opportunity to young researchers interested in the field to learn about some of the core interdisciplinary topics and to share their own experiences with other young researchers.

At the end of 2009, 2513 of you from 63 countries showed your support for IMEB, in danger of being closed by the Ministry of Culture. We are extremely grateful to you all for your efforts! This wave of protest was taken up and broadcast by many personal and institutional websites all over the world, and the protest was so strong that both print and electronic media passed on the information. But despite your magnificent show of solidarity, the Ministry still stands by its decision.
We see only one possible response: start a new campaign of support louder and with even more participants than the first.
Therefore, we, the members of the Support Committee for the IMEB, call on you once more to join this second protest, even more vigorously than before, either by writing yourself to the addresses you will find at the site www.supportforimeb.org , or by signing the petition you will find there. If you sign the petition at the website, it will automatically be sent with your signature to all the parties concerned.<

The World as instrument: A Theoretical Workshop Taught by Francisco Lopez

Francisco López is internationally recognized as one of the major figures of the sound art and experimental music scene. Over the past 30 years he has developed an astonishing sonic universe, absolutely personal and iconoclastic, based on a profound listening of the world. Destroying boundaries between industrial sounds and wilderness sound environments, shifting with passion from the limits of perception to the most dreadful abyss of sonic power, proposing a blind, profound and transcendental listening, freed from the imperatives of knowledge and open to sensory and spiritual expansion.

He has realized hundreds of concerts, projects with field recordings, workshops and sound installations in 60 countries of the five continents. His extensive catalog of sound pieces (with live and studio collaborations with over 100 international artists) has been released by more than 200 record labels worldwide, and he has been awarded three times with honorary mentions at the competition of Ars Electronica Festival. This theoretical workshop is focused on the historical, sociological and philosophical (rather than technical) aspects of different practices that have the “real world” as a source, or an inspiration, for sonic creation. From ancestral manifestations of music derived from nature to the present massive sonic exploration of our world, analyzing the historical attempts at recording sonic reality and creatively transform it, from musical notation to digital technology. With a multitude of sonic examples, from traditional to electronic music, the workshop aims at stirring up discussion and at challenging many stereotypical and misleading conceptions about recorded sound in many diverse areas and objects of study, from bioacoustics to experimental

music, from phonographs to hard disk recorders, from birds to cosmic radio emissions.
